Description
A) Overview Ride through historic Beijing on a guided bicycle tour along the Central Axis. The route links Yongding gate in the south with the Drum and Bell Towers in the north, covering about 7.8 km and more than six centuries of history. This experience combines moderate cycling, rest stops, and local food tastings. It also passes neighborhoods such as Liuxue Road and Xianyukou Hutong, where visitors can observe daily life and try traditional Beijing snacks. Cycling sections are short, usually 20 to 50 minutes, so the tour alternates between riding, tasting, and exploring. Along the way, you will see major landmarks from the outside, including Yongding Gate and Zhengyang Arrow Tower, areas near the Forbidden City corner towers, and the Drum and Bell Towers. Morning, afternoon, and evening departures offer different atmospheres. B) Why choose this • Cycle Beijing’s historic Central Axis from south to north • Enjoy three planned snack stops • Follow a clear GPS-supported route with an English-speaking guide • Balance cycling and rest stops during the 5-hour activity • Explore hutong streets many standard tours do not include C) What to expect Meet your guide at Yongdingmenwai Subway Station Exit C at your selected start time (from 09:00 to 17:00). After a short introduction, get a shared bike and begin riding. The first stop is Yongding gate, the southern gateway of the axis, where you can view the restored city gate tower. Continue toward Tianqiao. In the Liuxue Road neighborhood, stop for your first snack: fried guanchang, a traditional Beijing street food. Ride toward Qianmen Street, pass Zhengyang Arrow Tower, and enter Xianyukou Hutong, one of the area’s best-known snack streets. Here you will taste douzhi (fermented mung bean drink) and chaogan (stewed pork offal). From Zhengyangmen, the route continues north near the Forbidden City. Cycle past Nan Chizi Street and view the palace corner towers while approaching Jingshan Park. After another short ride, reach Di’anmen Street, where the former northern gate of the Ming imperial city once stood. Here you will try Huairou roasted chestnuts from a local vendor. The final cycling section passes Wanning Bridge, a Yuan Dynasty structure, before arriving at the Drum and Bell Towers. The tour ends at Drum Tower Square, where visitors may observe leisure activities such as shuttlecock kicking, dragon flag dancing, or square dancing.
