Description
Skip the crowds at the Great Wall or the Forbidden City — Longqing Gorge is Beijing's other side, known as the city's 'Little Li River' and one of its Ten Scenic Spots. This private day tour includes an English-speaking guide, a private driver, and all entrance tickets, following the itinerary below.
Suggested itinerary (approx. 6–7 hours total):
Your guide and driver pick you up from your Beijing hotel for the drive north to the gorge (95 km away). Along the way, your guide introduces the history and legends behind Longqing Gorge, so you arrive already knowing what to look for.
At Longqing Gorge (approx. 2.5–3 hours), your guide leads you onto the boat for the lake crossing, pointing out the temples, cliff formations, and viewpoints along the way and explaining the geology and legends behind them.
Lunch follows at a local restaurant near the gorge (approx. 1 hour, at your own cost).
Your guide and driver then return you to your Beijing hotel.
This itinerary can be customized by extending your day with a second site — in that case, lunch is followed by an afternoon visit instead of a direct return, and the total tour length increases accordingly. Choose one of these extensions when booking:
+ Badaling Great Wall (extends the day to approx. 8–9 hours total): an afternoon at Badaling, one of the Great Wall's best-preserved and most iconic sections. Your guide explains the engineering behind the wall's construction and its role in Chinese history as you walk the ramparts together.
+ Guyaju Cave Dwellings (extends the day to approx. 8–9 hours total): an afternoon at Guyaju, a complex of over 170 dwellings carved directly into the cliff face. Your guide shares the mystery of who carved them and why, a story still debated by historians.
+ Ming Tombs, Dingling (extends the day to approx. 8–9 hours total): an afternoon at Dingling, one of the Ming Tombs, where your guide walks you through the underground palace and shares the story of its 1950s excavation, including details from the original archaeological dig that most tours never mention.
Whichever itinerary you choose, your guide and driver stay with you the entire day — the same two people from pickup to drop-off — so your guide can adjust the pace, go deeper into topics your group is curious about, and answer questions as they come up, instead of following a fixed script. All entrance tickets for your chosen itinerary are included in the price.
