Join a fun, hands‑on workshop to make authentic Beijing candied hawthorn, also known locally as bingtanghulu, one of the most famous street snacks in old‑Beijing culture. Under the patient, step‑by‑step guidance of our experienced local instructor, you will take part in every stage of the traditional making process. First, you will select and thread fresh hawthorns and assorted seasonal fruits onto skewers. Next, you will watch and learn how to boil the sugar syrup to the perfect temperature, an important skill to get that signature crispy, glossy caramel coating. Then you will dip your fruit skewers into the hot sugar, carefully coating each piece to create your own shiny candied‑fruit treat. While waiting for your homemade bingtanghulu to cool and crisp up, our tutor will share fascinating stories and history behind this iconic old‑Beijing snack. You will learn how candied hawthorn became a beloved street food that has been enjoyed by locals for hundreds of years.
