Description
Escape Beijing on this full-day journey to Miyun District. Your adventure begins with morning pickup from your hotel (approx. 7:30-8:00 AM) and a scenic 2.5-hour drive through the countryside.
Upon arrival, take the cable car up to Simatai Great Wall. Unlike the crowded, heavily restored sections closer to Beijing, Simatai is renowned as the only section that preserves the original appearance of the Ming Dynasty. UNESCO has recognized it as the 'Original Great Wall' . Built along the precipitous Yanshan Mountains, this section is famed for its steepness, density of watchtowers, and ingenious construction. Climb ancient stone steps to visit original watchtowers, gazing at rugged peaks stretching toward the horizon.
After descending, enter Gubei Water Town nestled at the wall's foot. This meticulously recreated ancient village blends Jiangnan-style waterways—arched bridges, cobblestone streets, traditional courtyards—with northern China's mountain grandeur.
Spend your late afternoon exploring illuminated attractions: Hilltop Church with panoramic views of the town and Great Wall, Republic of China Street's retro shops, and Water Street's canal reflections. Visit Yongshun Dyeing Workshop, Sima Distillery.
As darkness falls, lanterns reflect off canals while the Great Wall above glows with thousands of lights—a magical nightscape few witness.
Around 5:00 PM, begin your return journey, arriving at your hotel approximately 2 hours later.
Note: Wear comfortable shoes for steep, uneven steps.
