The Lama Temple, Confucius Temple, Imperial College, and Ditan Park are all within walking distance of each other – perfect for a guided tour. Your experience can begin with a stroll through Ditan Park, then you can visit Yonghegong (Lama Temple), and finally you can explore the Confucius Temple and Guozijian (Imperial College).
1. Ditan Park, which complements the more famous Temple of Heaven, served as the sacred site where Ming and Qing emperors performed rituals to honor the earth.
You can experience the daily life of Beijing locals and take photos at the park's famous check-in spots, such as the 'Leaping Wall' and the 'Sea of Ditan.' Recently, you can also enjoy the magnolia blossoms in the park. Visiting Ditan Park will take about one hour.
2. The Yonghe Lama Temple (Yonghe Gong) is a stunning blend of imperial grandeur and Tibetan Buddhist culture—once a Qing Dynasty prince’s residence, now Beijing’s largest and most prestigious Tibetan Buddhist monastery. It’s a national cultural relic and a beloved spot for travelers seeking peace, cultural insight, and a meaningful blessing experience.
Enter and follow the 480-meter central axis lined with five grand halls. You can explore the Yonghe Gate Hall, Yonghe Palace, and Hall of the Wheel of the Law, home to a towering bronze statue of Tsongkhapa and exquisite sandalwood carvings.
The temple’s highlight is the Pavilion of Ten Thousand Happinesses, housing an 18-meter-tall Maitreya Buddha statue carved from a single sandalwood trunk. You’ll also find precious thangka paintings, ancient murals, and sacred scriptures.
During this experience, you may receive free incense at the entrance and light it inside the temple as an offering, praying for health, wealth, and career success. Visiting the Yonghe Lama Temple will take about one and a half hours.
3. The Imperial College & The Temple of Confucius
You can visit China's oldest school and pray for success in both your career and academic pursuits. Visiting Ditan The Imperial College & The Temple of Confucius will take about one hour.
