Description
This day tour offers hotel pickup from central Beijing based on your preferred schedule. The high-speed train ride between Beijing and Datong takes around 2 hours one way.
Your local guide and driver will meet you at Datong Railway Station, then drive to the 1,500-year-old Hanging Temple. Perched 50 meters up the cliff of Mount Heng, this remarkable landmark is famous for its stunning suspended wooden architecture. Supported by hidden beams drilled into the rock, the temple looks as if it floats in mid-air. It is a rare cultural site that combines Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian statues within one cliff-side complex. Please note: The admission ticket and scenic shuttle bus for the Hanging Temple are included in this tour package. The boarding pass of the Hanging Temple is not covered, and these boarding passes sell out quickly even for local Chinese visitors.

In the afternoon, we will drive 25 km (40 minutes) to Yungang Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 1-kilometer stone cave complex was carved over 40 years starting from the 5th century. It holds 45 intact caves and over 51,000 stone Buddha statues, blending ancient Silk Road art with traditional Chinese carving styles. Caves 5 and 6 are the most popular spots, featuring a 17-meter giant Buddha and elaborate layered Buddhist reliefs all over the cave walls.
Once sightseeing concludes, we will transfer you back to Datong Railway Station for your return high-speed train. Free drop-off service back to your hotel in central Beijing is provided after you arrive in Beijing.
