Description

Explore Every Floor of China Archaeological Museum 1st Floor The first floor is the grand entrance and introductory hall. It features an impressive starry dome and the Historical Avenue, with a ground timeline showcasing the entire development of Chinese civilization from ancient human origins through all major dynasties. Archaeological stratum samples and reproduced excavation scenes are displayed on both sides, clearly explaining stratigraphic principles and basic archaeological knowledge. The highlight is the authentic Shang Dynasty Yin Ruins chariot pit, one of the best-preserved ancient carriage relics in China, perfect for starting your cultural journey. 2nd Floor The second floor focuses on prehistoric civilization origins, covering the Paleolithic, Neolithic and early ancient state periods before the Xia Dynasty. It exhibits precious national treasures unearthed from famous prehistoric sites, including the Jiahu bone flute, painted dragon-pattern pottery, early jade artifacts, inscribed pottery and ritual pottery vessels. You will discover the earliest musical instruments, the origin of the Chinese dragon totem, primitive writing symbols and ancient pottery art, tracing how Chinese civilization evolved from primitive tribes to early complex societies. 3rd Floor The third floor is the core highlight of the museum, themed on the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties, the dawn of early Chinese civilization. It showcases priceless archaeological discoveries from Erlitou, Yin Ruins and Zhou period relic sites. Must-see treasures include the famous turquoise dragon artifact, Simuxin bronze square ding, turquoise-inlaid bronze ornaments, genuine oracle bone inscriptions, ritual bronze vessels and ancient jade treasures. This floor lets you admire the peak of ancient bronze culture, primitive writing and royal ritual systems, and understand the historical origin of the name “China”. 4th Floor The fourth floor consists of three themed exhibition areas. Unified Empires Exhibition Discover cultural relics from the Qin Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, displaying the formation and prosperity of a unified multi-ethnic China. The collection includes ancient pottery figurines, jade burial suits, bamboo slips, Tang tri-color pottery, luxury gold and silver wares, imperial porcelain and royal jade artefacts. Cultural Integration & Silk Road Exhibition Explore ancient cultural and trade exchanges along the overland Silk Road and maritime routes. The exhibition features foreign-style figurines, exotic gold and silver objects, ancient glassware, medieval foreign coins, export porcelain and recovered shipwreck relics. Modern Archaeology Exhibition Learn the century-long history of Chinese modern archaeology. It introduces the excavation of major historic sites, the life of pioneering archaeologists, the wartime protection and relocation of cultural relics, and the inheritance of heritage preservation across generations.
