Description

Pick up from your hotel in Beijing (30 minutes). Wander through the iconic 798 Art District, where industrial warehouses have been transformed into a vibrant zone of contemporary Chinese art. Enjoy the contrast between street installations, conceptual galleries, and modern coffee shops. (60 minutes) Then, dive into a serene cultural corner within the zone, a studio dedicated to reviving traditional Chinese handcrafts (60 minutes). Here, you can experience one from the three unique workshops: a) Mother-of-pearl Inlay (Luodian 螺钿): Create your own shimmering accessories using this ancient decorative art that involves embedding delicate pieces of shell into lacquered surfaces. Your finished product — whether a pendant, brooch, or bracelet — becomes a keepsake or heartfelt gift. b) Enamel Cloisonné (Shaolan 烧蓝): Explore the intricate process of cloisonné enamel. Using copper wire and bright enamels, you'll design and fire your own jewelry piece that blends color, metalwork, and tradition. c) Herbal Sachet Sewing (香囊): Learn how to hand-sew a traditional medicated aromatic sachet, used for centuries to ward off insects and improve wellness. Filled with dried herbs and scented powders, it’s a portable reminder of your Beijing day. This hands-on experience blends artistic flair with meaningful cultural heritage. You’ll leave not only with beautiful self-made items, but also with a deeper appreciation of China’s meticulous craft traditions. Calligraphy Experience (30 minutes): Start by exploring ink stones and preparing ink, then try writing Chinese calligraphy yourself. Through simple practice, learn about the evolution of Chinese characters and experience the charm of this traditional art form. Return to your hotel in Beijing (30 minutes).
