Description

Meet your guide at the entrance of Prince Gong’s Mansion. Start your journey at Prince Gong’s Mansion, one of the largest and best-preserved princely residences of the Qing Dynasty. With its grand halls, elegant gardens, and intricate decorations, the mansion reflects the luxury of imperial life. Admire its three highlights: the Western-style Gate, the Grand Theater, and the Fortune Stele. After the visit, walk to Shichahai, a scenic area made up of Qianhai, Houhai, and Xihai lakes. Enjoy stone bridges, willow trees, and lotus blossoms along the lakeside. Famous views include “Yinding Bridge Mountain View” and “Willows and Lotus by the Lake.” Along the way, you may also see the Former Residence of Soong Ching-ling and the Guo Moruo Memorial Hall. Enter the surrounding hutongs, where narrow alleys and traditional courtyard houses (siheyuan) represent the authentic charm of old Beijing. Stroll through these historic lanes to experience the unique local lifestyle and atmosphere. Visit a local Beijing family’s home and learn the traditional art of Chinese calligraphy. Under the guidance of your host, practice writing with a brush and ink, and experience the warm and authentic atmosphere of a hutong household. Take home your finished calligraphy piece as a special keepsake. Around Shichahai, you will find many traditional Beijing restaurants. Famous options include Kaorou Ji (roast lamb), Baodu Zhang (quick-fried tripe), and Luzhu Xiaochang (braised intestines with tofu and bread) – a perfect way to round off your cultural experience.
