Description
Experience a different side of China's history at the Huanghuacheng Lakeside Great Wall. Located in Huairou District, about 70 km from Beijing, this is the perfect getaway for travelers seeking nature, hiking, and history without the intense crowds.
Unlike the 'dry' sections of the wall built on mountain ridges, Huanghuacheng is famous for its interaction with water. Due to a dam built nearby, the water level rose, causing parts of the wall to dive into the lake, creating a stunning reflection.
Book in advance to avoid disappointment. On the day, go straight to the turnstile and swipe your ID/passport. Choose your path and explore at your own pace.
Walk along the wooden boardwalks by the lake, enjoying the cool breeze and looking up at the majestic watchtowers. Climb the renovated steps of the wall to the high points for a breathtaking 360-degree view of the reservoir and cliffs.
Feel like a local as you explore this quiet, green area, perfect for a picnic or a meditative walk. Don't miss the Glass Bridge (optional onsite) and the Magnet Mountain. Whether you are a serious hiker or a casual walker, Huanghuacheng offers the most diverse scenery of all Great Wall sections.
