In the Ming era, it was called the 'Star Observing Platform,' equipped with large instruments like the Armillary Sphere, Celestial Globe, and Gnomon. During the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed 'Observatory,' and additional European-style bronze astronomical instruments were added during the reigns of Emperors Kangxi and Qianlong.
