Description
Ancient Incense Craft: DIY Incense Stick Class
1. Enter the Aromatic Workshop
Step in, and a soft sandalwood-agarwood scent wraps around you. The space has wooden shelves with vintage incense jars and potted herbs, feeling warm and calm. Each workbench holds your supplies: incense powder (sandalwood/agarwood), elm wood binder, mineral water, a hand-cranked extruder, a bamboo rack, and cotton gloves.
2. Learn from the Instructor
Your linen-robed instructor shows aged incense, sharing its history (used in temples/rituals). They let you touch the silky incense powder, then teach the 80:20 powder-to-binder ratio—key for even burning.
3. Mix & Knead the Dough
Put on gloves, mix measured powders in a bowl (soft “swish” sounds), then add water spoon by spoon. Knead into smooth, non-sticky dough; the instructor adjusts consistency if needed. The aroma grows stronger as you fold it.
4. Rest & Connect
Seal the dough in a jar for 15 minutes (“awakening” for better binding). Sip jasmine tea and watch a short ancient incense-making video to deepen your connection to the craft.
5. Extrude Your Incense Sticks
Load dough into the extruder. Crank slowly—too much force breaks the strand, too little makes it lumpy. With the instructor’s guidance, you make smooth sticks, coiling them onto the rack until the dough is gone.
6. Wrap Up & Take Home
Trim sticks to 15cm, arrange on the rack (dries 24 hours in shade to avoid cracking). Label your rack, pick a decorative box, and get a burned incense sample—previewing the warm aroma of your handcrafted piece of history.
