Begin at the Fangzhuan Zhajiangmian along Qianmen Street, a renowned Michelin-starred restaurant we chose for its unrivaled authentic Beijing-style fried sauce noodles (crafted with time-honored recipes that capture the city’s classic 'home-style' flavor, a staple of local cuisine). Savor the deep, savory notes of the noodles, then while dining, learn about the history of Qianmen Street—one of Beijing’s oldest commercial thoroughfares—and discover its unique charm with traditional courtyard architecture and a bustling, lively atmosphere that still retains old Beijing’s spirit. Next, choose between Mongolia hot pot or Peking duck at a carefully picked eatery near the Dongsi Hutongs: we selected this spot for its mastery of these two iconic dishes—Mongolia hot pot is a beloved option shaped by Beijing’s historical ties to Mongolian culture, a culinary legacy where the city adopted and adapted Mongolian mutton hot pot into local life, while Peking duck (with its crispy skin and tender meat) is a globally celebrated symbol of Beijing’s culinary heritage. Located near the Dongsi Hutongs, enjoy a delicious meal while delving into the rich history of these ancient alleys. The narrow lanes and traditional courtyards tell stories of old Beijing, giving you a taste of the city’s past. For the third stop, head to Nanluogu Xiang and visit Great Leap Brewing—a spot we handpicked for its innovative, locally rooted craft beers. Hidden in the alleys, Great Leap Brewing is famous for its unique beers with distinct flavors that highlight local produce. Alternatively, choose to visit Wudaoying Hutong—we selected this charming alley for its curated mix of small shops, cozy cafes, and dim sum spots which showcases the delicate side of Beijing’s snack culture, with bite-sized treats that blend Northern and Southern Chinese influences, a lesser-known but delightful part of the city’s food scene.
